Altea is a town located in the north of Alicante, between the cities of Benidorm and Calpe. Formerly a small fishing and farming village, it has developed over the last few decades and has managed to retain its fishing village character while attracting valuable sun and beach tourism.

It is a municipality of 23,000 inhabitants and is classified among the most beautiful villages in Spain.

It is situated on a hill from which the bell tower of the parish church stands out, dedicated to the Virgin of Consuelo, with its famous blue domes, a typical image of Altea, known as the Cúpula del Mediterraneo.

From the church square, there are views of the whole region. The church is surrounded by cobbled streets, staircases, watchtowers, roundabouts and white houses that were once surrounded by solid walls.

Altea is full of artists' studios and craft shops. In the lower part of town, you'll find King Jaime I's shopping street, the fishermen's quarter and the port, which is very active in fishing, as well as the seafront and six kilometres of coastline made up of pebble beaches, coves and cliffs.

Altea has two outstanding festivals: the Castell de L'Olla fireworks display in August and the Moors and Christians festival at the end of September.

It has more than 6 kilometres of coastline with alternating cliffs and small coves. The following beaches stand out among them:
- La Roda, a pebble beach which is the most popular as it is located in the centre of the town.
- La Olla, a beautiful sandy and pebbly beach located in front of the islet of La Olla. The name "olla" is due to the fact that at the coldest time of the year there is a place on this beach where the water begins to boil.
- Cap Negret is a gravelled beach. The name "Negret" comes from the black colour of the volcanic rocks found on one of its beaches.
- El Mascarat is a charming gravelled cove next to Puerto Deportivo Campomanes.
- Cap Blanch is a wide white gravelled beach with transparent, very blue waters. It is the largest beach in Altea and borders Albir beach.

It also has three nudist beaches: Playa de la Solsida, Playa Mascarat Norte and Cala de la Barra Grande, all of which are gravelled and have been awarded the Q for Tourist Quality.

The area around Altea is also of great tourist value due to the importance of its landscapes, such as the Mascarat Canyon, the Sierra Gelada Natural Park or the Sierra de Bernia, all of which are incredible natural sites worth visiting.
